I found Great Expectations by Charles Dickens to be quite a difficult book to read. I had a hard time understanding what was going on throughout the story, and I couldn’t piece everything together. Although understanding who each character is and knowing factual information is not difficult, finding symbols and themes was. I would not recommend this book to anyone who is in middle school or has not read difficult books before. This book would be an easier and more enjoyable read for someone in college or their later years of high-school, or someone who has read difficult books before and has understood them. Many people I have asked about this book said they have read it, and when I asked when most responded by telling me they read it in college. Great Expectations is a great work of literature, but the reader must have understand the type of writing in order to enjoy it. Personally, I did not enjoy the book very much, simply because it was hard to comprehend and analyze. I believe that this book should be read and college when people are more developed and have a better sense of understanding. Great Expectations should be read by everyone, but only when they are ready.
